Safe Filtering Option for Disabling Potentially Harmful Virus Scripts Contained in HTML EmailHTML email looks innocent enough -- just like a regular web page -- when you view it in your email program. But hidden within the HTML code that makes these pages look much "prettier" than regular text email, there may be scripts capable of doing all kinds of damage or mischief. To put it simply, it's what you DON'T see that can be harmful to you. Not only can HTML email contain harmful virus code or computer language scripts capable of accessing your computer, these scripts can even send personal information to some other location on the internet, or even activate a virus code! This is what is known as "off-page referencing". Take for example, the code or script that makes a photo appear on a web page. Without boring you with the details, this script's job is to activate a command that basically says, "Go get this image from this other computer and present it here in this email now." This all happens in such a short period of time that you don't even notice. And why should you? The picture is just there for you to see. But what if the script isn't asking for just a picture -- but instead a virus file? You wouldn't notice this happening either. As you can see, this can be very dangerous. Mailbox Filter guards againts these potentially harmful scripts by filtering them out before they can get into your computer. Our unique process actually Neutralizes (renders harmless) any harmful code that may be embedded within an HTML email message and pass along to you the formatted text only. No images, no scripts. A completely safe email. Just in case you want to see the web pages as they are, this safe filtering option is not turned on by default. But you can easily activate it once you have installed Mailbox Filter. NOTE: This does not apply to normal image files that are sent as attachments. Only script references within HTML messages are removed. |
